Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Welcomes Ronald Beer & Dr. Gerald Maloney to Board of Directors

Jackie Brozena, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, recently announced the appointments of Ronald R. Beer, MHA, FACHE and Gerald V. Maloney, DO, FACP to the Board of Directors. Ronald R. Beer, MHA, FACHE, is the Chief Administrative Officer for Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) and its Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre campus (GSWB). Ron joined Geisinger in 2013 as the Vice President of Operations at GWV with system responsibilities for the Emergency Medicine Service Line. In April of 2014, Ron was promoted to Chief Administrative Officer, GWV. Prior to joining Geisinger, Ron spent four years as the Chief Executive Officer of Berwick Hospital Center and Berwick Retirement Village. Ron is a graduate of Emporia State University, Emporia, KS, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. NRCI's Community Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program Reaches Screening Milestone

In 2010, the need to provide assistance to the low income population of the region led the Cancer Institute to launch the Community Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program. Many navigation programs begin at diagnosis and work within one health system but the Cancer Institute’s program begins with screening and is a community based program operating across health care systems, free-standing practices and public and private agencies. The Community Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program is a cancer screening initiative focused on barrier reduction and facilitating breast, cervical and colon cancer screenings for NEPA residents. The program helps with identifying and reducing hurdles related to screening completion and diagnostic follow-up (if needed), while establishing or re-establishing medical homes for the targeted population. This program assists participants to steer through the complex healthcare system from prevention through aftercare; enhances screening rates; and reduces delays between diagnosis and treatment. Judi H Rock On 5 Raises $20,465 for the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute

The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute is pleased to announce the Judi H Rock On 5 planning committee raised $20,465 (gross) from this year’s event. The dance party/fundraiser was held September 27, 2015 at the St. Mary’s Center. The Judi H planning committee is made up of a group of friends and family of a woman from Dunmore, Judi Hartridge, who died from breast cancer in 2007. To honor her memory, family and friends formed a committee- Judi H Rock On, to raise funds to fight the disease that claimed her life. The group has raised more than $200,000 over the past five years which includes matching funds. Proceeds from the event support NRCI’s Patient Navigation Program, which helps low income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals in northeast Pennsylvania receive their recommended breast, cervical, and colon cancer screenings.



Oktoberfest Fundraiser Raises $3,855 In Honor of Patricia Musti

Community member, Geoff Musti and his family and friends hosted an Oktoberfest fundraiser on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Morgan’z Pub and Eatery located at 315 Green Ridge St, Scranton. The event included a variety of fall beers, food, raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle. Geoff and his committee raised $3,855 that will support the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute. The committee hopes to have an annual event next year. This event was coordinated to honor Geoff’s mother, Patricia Musti. She taught nearly 40 years within the Scranton School District at John Marshall Elementary School in West Scranton. As a 3rd grade teacher, she dedicated her life to her students to assure not only their intellectual development, but also their growth as upstanding members of their community. Patricia’s selfless commitment to her profession shaped countless young people and she truly loved her work and the impact she had on each child’s life. Read more
