Cancer Institute Volunteers to Receive Community Award
The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute is proud to announce Maura Phillips Staback from Eynon and Mike Moran from Clarks Summit will receive the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser(s) Award at the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) NEPA Chapter’s upcoming National Philanthropy Day Celebration.
This brother and sister team created, and for 10 years has sustained C.A.S.U.A.L. (Colon cancer Awareness Saves Unlimited Adult Lives) Day – a grassroots effort to raise awareness, and funds to support colon cancer screening and early detection throughout northeastern Pennsylvania.
Each year hundreds of participants from across northeastern Pennsylvania purchase T-shirts and/or pins and dress “casual” during a regional dress down day at the end of March.
The effort was developed in honor of their mother, Helen Phillips, who passed away due to colon cancer in 2002.
Proceeds from C.A.S.U.A.L. Day benefit the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute. The campaign is the organization’s largest fundraiser and awareness initiative each year.
The AFP celebration luncheon will be held Friday, November 22 at 11:30 a.m. in the Seasons Ballroom at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Plains Township.
