Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Announces Staff Promotions

SCRANTON, PA – The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute’s President, Karen Saunders, recently announced several staffing changes across the organization approved by the Board of Directors.

Sally Cavanaugh, of Wilkes-Barre, has been hired as a Patient Navigator. She is a registered nurse working within the Community-Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program helping individuals complete recommended cancer screenings. Sally is a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomsburg University. She has held various nursing positions at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Visiting Nurse Association of Luzerne County and Blue Cross of Northeastern PA.  She was most recently employed by Pennsylvania State University as a Research Assistant on multiple studies involving the area’s geriatric population.

Claire Bernardo, of Mountain Top, has been hired as Patient Navigator/Outreach Coordinator. She is working within the Community-Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program helping individuals complete recommended cancer screenings and assisting with community outreach programming. Claire previously worked at Maternal and Family Health Services (MFHS) as the Regional Program Manager of the HealthyWoman Program.  Prior to employment at MFHS, she was the office manager at Women 2 Women, Inc., a privately owned women’s healthcare provider in Kingston, PA.  Claire began her career at the Hospital for Joint Disease Orthopedic Institute in New York City and worked there for ten years before moving to northeast Pennsylvania.

Railyn Frank, of Taylor, has been hired as a Registry Staff Assistant. She is responsible for supporting the Cancer Registry, assisting the Cancer Registry Supervisor, as well as general administrative duties. She received her certification in Medical Administration Assistant and Microsoft Office Suite program from Lackawanna College in 2019 and has certification in Phlebotomy and E.K.G. from Luzerne County Community College. Railyn previously worked at Penn East Federal Credit Union as a bank teller. She is a finance officer at St. Paul’s Independent Bible Church and has been a school bus driver for DeNaples Transportation.
