Mick’s Barber Shop in Honesdale recently hosted Buzz Off Cancer 2017, a biennial fundraiser created in 2011, that raised $6,817.44 to support The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.

Buzz Off Cancer 2017 promoted cancer awareness and encouraged individuals to collect pledges from friends and family in return for having their hair or beard buzzed off.  Mick’s Barber Shop staff volunteered their time for the event, and other funds were raised through the sale of t-shirts, wristbands, raffle tickets and refreshments. There were also several mobile buzz events at Honesdale High School and Toyota of Scranton. A car wash was hosted by Camp Poyntelle Lewis Village campers to support the fundraiser.

The proceeds benefit the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, a local, non-profit organization working to ease the burden of cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The three main program areas that the Cancer Institute focuses on are: community and patient services, hospital and practice support services, and cancer surveillance.
