Blue Cross of NEPA Hosts “Tiles: From Tears to Triumph”
Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania recently hosted the “Tiles: From Tears to Triumph,” an art display in the lobby of its Wilkes-Barre operations center. The display, created by the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, features replications of ceramic tiles that were painted by Luzerne County cancer survivors and caregivers through an art therapy project.
Through the project, participants were encouraged to express their feelings about their cancer experience by painting a tile. Art therapy is often used to help cancer patients express their emotions, reduce stress and provide a sense of relaxation.
Pictured with the display are (from left to right): Bob Durkin, President, Northeast Regional Cancer Institute; Leo M. Hartz, MD, MHM, Vice President, Interim Chief Medical Officer of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and member of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Board of Directors; and Christine Zavaskas, Community Relations Coordinator, Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.
