Northeast Regional Cancer Institute to partner with the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNet)
The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute was recently selected to partner with the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNet).
CISNet is a consortium of the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-sponsored researchers that use statistical models to help develop cancer control strategies.
“This partnership offers a unique opportunity for our region to benefit from bringing nationally recognized expertise into our cancer control planning,” said Robert Durkin, President of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.
Specifically, the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute partnership will help explore methods to address the high rates of smoking and lung cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
“Our goal on this project is to identify the best strategy for reducing lung cancer deaths in Northeast Pennsylvania,” said Dr. Samuel Lesko, Director of Research/Medical Director at the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.
The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to easing the burden of cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania. 100% of Cancer Institute resources are invested in the region and programming focuses on community and patient services, hospital and practice support services, and epidemiology research
