Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Receives $10,000 CVS Health Community Grant

Grant to the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute is part of CVS Health’s commitment to increasing access to quality health care

[SCRANTON, PA] – The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute announced today that it has received a $10,000 CVS Health Community Grant. The Community Grants Program was created by CVS Health, as part of its commitment to building healthier communities. These grants support nonprofit organizations that are providing much-needed access to health care for at-risk and underserved populations.

The support from CVS Health will help the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Patient Navigation Program, a cancer screening initiative focused on barrier reduction and facilitating breast, cervical and colon cancer screenings for Northeastern Pennsylvania residents. The program helps with identifying and reducing hurdles related to screening completion and diagnostic follow-up if needed while establishing or re-establishing medical homes for the targeted population. Currently, the program helps low income, uninsured and underinsured individuals who are not up to date with colon, breast and cervical cancer screenings.

“We are very grateful to receive the CVS Health Community Grant. This grant award will help us provide potentially lifesaving cancer screenings among individuals who might not otherwise have the resources to get screened. We look forward to partnering with CVS on this important public health initiative,” said Laura Toole, director of community and patient services at the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.

“As a pharmacy innovation company, we are committed to helping people on their path to better health. We are proud to support organizations that increase access to quality health care because we know their efforts are critical to delivering better community health,” said Eileen Howard Boone, senior vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility and Philanthropy, CVS Health. “We are pleased to support the work that the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute does in the community and we look forward to working with them to fulfill their program’s mission.”

The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute was selected to receive a grant through the CVS Health Community Grants 2015 application process. Grants were awarded to organizations, such as community health centers and mobile health clinics, which support CVS Health’s commitment to enhance the health and well-being of at-risk and underserved populations by offering quality health and rehabilitation services and health education. The goal of the CVS Health Community Grants Program is to provide relief for both adults and children who lack medical insurance and help ensure they receive the proper medical care they need.
